News >Access's First Summer Camp 2022

Sep 28,2022

In the context of the Intensive Sessions component of the English Access Microscholarship Program funded by the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, Teach For Lebanon has held a summer camp in 2022 for its 480 students from all over Lebanon, divided over 4 regional clusters:

  • Cluster 1 (August 18-19) with 140 students at Balamand University.

  • Cluster 2 (August 22-23) with 140 students at Balamand University

  • Cluster 3 (August 29-30) with 100 students at Beirut Arab University, Debbiyeh Campus

  • Cluster 4 (September 21-22) with 100 students at Grand Hotel Al Khayal, Baalback

Planned with one overnight stay at select dorms around the venue, Day 1 consisted of inducting the students with a unique and innovative training program that equips the youth with the needed digital, social, and entrepreneurial skills that help them create sustainable solutions for pressing problems in their communities, in line with the UN’s SDGs.

As Day 2 was designed for the students to present the Community Service projects they had planned and implemented from February through June 2022 followed by a celebration, Day 1 was conceived with the benefit of giving the students ideas to add a sustainability angle to their projects.

Clusters 1, 2, and 4 witnessed the attendance of TFL staff and TFL alumni, and Cluster 3 witnessed the attendance of U.S. Embassy officials, including four marines who sat on the jury panels for the Community Service project presentations.

It’s worthwhile mentioning that the 480 Access students had put in place a total of 109 Community Service projects covering a wide array of topics, such as Environment and Public Health; Education; Public Property Rights; Public Safety and Domestic Violence; Civil Rights and Corruption.

Impressions from students, teachers, assistants, and volunteering Access alumni abound, voiced high satisfaction with the content, organization, and overall experience of this Access Summer Camp. Here are some of the testimonials:
