Overwhelming challenges, such as poverty, starvation, discrimination, trauma, and lack of educational access, beset children growing up under protracted crises. When millions of children are not learning and reaching their potential, it impacts all of us, prolonging poverty, dividing society, and weakening economies.
Teach For All, and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) announced their Leadership for Learning Through Displacement Partnership, to improve access to quality education for children forcibly displaced by conflict. The partnership involves network partners Teach For Lebanon, Teach For Bangladesh, and Teach For Poland.
The Partnership will expand and scale quality education and build strong local leadership for system change by recruiting and developing fellow teachers and providing ongoing professional development to thousands more educators already working in these systems. The initiative will also develop, test, refine, and scale Education in Emergencies (EIE) content for teacher training, and provide technical support in social-emotional learning and conflict-sensitive teaching, in addition to creating a safe learning environment and improving students' well-being.
In an effort to support children in refugee-hosting communities, the project will recruit Fellows in schools with large refugee populations, where Fellows will adapt their curricula and teaching strategies taking into account the perspectives of the students as well as the effects of war and violence.
Through this partnership, our Fellows will then personally provide training to non-TFL school teachers, and target school principals and parents, through awareness sessions. This will have an impact on the future of children who have been forcibly removed from their homes, giving them better opportunities to lead a successful life of agency and community service.Number of fellows: 5
