When schools become shelters, education becomes more than a classroom.

by Teach For Lebanon - Aug 05,2026

For Teach For Lebanon Fellow Israa, continuing to support her students meant helping them hold on to something every child deserves: stability, hope, and a sense of belonging. Her experience reminds us that education is not only about academic learning—it is about building trust, nurturing resilience, and creating spaces where children can continue to grow, even in the most difficult circumstances.

This is the kind of leadership we strive to develop. Our Fellows come from diverse backgrounds, bringing different experiences and perspectives, but they share one belief: every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their circumstances. We empower them not only to teach, but to lead with empathy, respond to the realities of their communities, and create impact that extends far beyond the classroom.

Through the Resilience Through Education project, delivered in partnership with the Education Above All Foundation (EAA), we are strengthening this work by equipping educators with the tools and support needed to provide inclusive, trauma-informed, and social-emotional learning for children affected by crisis.

Israa’s experience reflects what becomes possible when committed leaders are empowered to serve their communities. Because when we invest in leaders through education, children gain more than learning—they gain someone who believes in them and helps them see a future beyond the challenges they face.

We invite you to read Israa's inspiring story.
