Teach For Lebanon Week 2017

When national and regional leaders gather to support quality education, children dreams have higher chances to become true. Mrs. May El Khalil-Founder and President of Beirut Marathon, Mrs. Salam Hamzeh Ghaith- Founder and President of Smallworld, Mr. Silvio Chiha- Lebanese Professional Athlete, Ms. Michelle Mouracade- Al Fanar Country Director for Lebanon and Deutsche Post DHL Lebanon-- all joined efforts with Teach For Lebanon in its annual event, TFL Week.

TFL week brings together local leaders to celebrate our nation’s children.  These guest speakers are invited to share their extensive professional and personal experiences with a room full of students and inspire them to achieve academic success. Teach For Lebanon believes that socio-economic background shouldn’t limit children’s success; therefore, it continues to send young motivated and well trained teachers into classrooms to teach and motivate underprivileged children who have limited exposure. Their aim is to expand their students’ horizons and visions to help them realize their full potential. Furthermore, every child has a dream, and it is our responsibility to help children believe in achieving their aspirations by exposing them to concrete and real-life examples.  As such, TFL is not only an organization which is thriving towards educational equity but also gives a great attention to activities that are essential for the personal development of the children and motivated youth.

Using their own personal experiences, the before mentioned community leaders encouraged Lebanon’s young people to work relentlessly toward achieving their dreams despite the challenges they might face.

TFL Week is a productive initiative on various levels. First, it was an opportunity for Lebanon’s professionals to become intimately acquainted with TFL’s work on how it’s tackling educational inequity, and the often overlooked challenges facing primary and secondary education across the nation. Through these and other collaborative endeavors, TFL sought to provide these leaders with meaningful experiences and opportunities to support Lebanon’s children. “Because of the guidance and supervision that TFL is giving to the students, we have future leaders. Thank you for what you are doing!” Mrs. May El Khalil.

Second, it was a great exposure for the students who got the chance to meet successful people and learn from them. “Thank you TFL for this inspirational day. It was a great opportunity for us. I learned that if I have the commitment and perseverance, I can achieve my dreams one day.”

Third, it was an excellent opportunity for the Fellows to feel appreciated by well-known people they look up to. “The dedication and the sacrifices that the Fellows are making for education in Lebanon is truly inspiring.” Ms. Michelle Mouracade.
