On the occasion of the visit of the USA’s Regional English Language Officer (RELO), Eran Williams, to Lebanon, accompanied from his base in Amman-Jordan by the Regional Public Engagement Specialist (REPS), Sacha Fraiture, he held meetings with select Access alumni and students at the American Corner in Tripoli, which were attended by officials from the U.S. Embassy in Beirut.
The first meeting was led by Rodaina Boushaheen, TFL’s Access Alumni Coordinator, and featured a discussion between RELO and three Access alumni who are now conducting community projects funded by the Access Alumni Mini-Grants 2022. The one-hour talk focused on three areas of the alumni’s interests: their paths after Access, what they do now, and how Access has helped them get where they are. They also discussed their community initiatives with Williams and gained advice from him and the US Embassy officials in attendance.
The second meeting, led by Manar Hammoud, TFL’s Access Program Coordinator, included three students from Saba Zreik Public High School, Fadl Mokkadem Public High School, and Qobbe High School. During the one-hour meeting, the students discussed the impact of Access on their future, their thoughts on additional activities that would support them in what’s going forward, and finally, they sought Williams' advice at a time when the educational system in Lebanon is undergoing a severe crisis.
